Best Hotels in Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep): Beachfront, Budget and 5-Star, Honestly Compared

We spent two easy nights on Neil Island, now officially Shaheed Dweep, and here is the first thing worth knowing before you book: Neil is small, flat and gloriously slow.

In shortNeil Island (Shaheed Dweep) is small, flat and slow: beachfront, budget and upscale stays compared honestly.

Researched from 3 sources across 3 websitesGo2AndamanExperience AndamansAndamanIslands.com

There is no big resort strip, no nightlife, and the whole island circles on a scooter in under an hour. Choosing where to stay is less about chasing five stars and more about picking the right beach and vibe for one or two unhurried nights. We take no commission: every rate below is a rough guide, and booking direct with the property usually beats the OTA listings anyway.

Neil is tiny, but where you sleep still matters, because the island is organised loosely around three beaches and one market. Neil Kendra (the jetty and bazaar) is where the ferry drops you: shops, ATMs, scooter rentals and cheap dhabas; stay here for convenience, early ferries or the lowest prices. Laxmanpur (Beaches 1 and 2) is the sunset side and home to the natural coral bridge: most of the nicer resorts sit here. Bharatpur is the calm turquoise bay next to the jetty, best for snorkelling and glass-bottom boats. Sitapur (Beach 5) is the far, quiet sunrise end.

Because the island is so compact, do not agonise: Laxmanpur for the prettiest setting, Neil Kendra for budget and convenience: nothing is more than a fifteen-minute ride from anything.

01 · The character

01 · The three beaches that decide everything

Treat every rate on this page as a ballpark peak-season figure (roughly October to April). In the lean, hotter months and monsoon you can often negotiate down hard: occupancy drops right off.

Budget: guesthouses and eco-huts (₹1,000–3,000)

Honest thing the booking sites will not tell you: Neil has no real hostel scene. What it has is simple family-run guesthouses: Seven Seas Dream Castle near Laxmanpur, Hotel Shreesh by the jetty (clean AC doubles, often free breakfast, ₹1,500–2,500), homelier picks like Blue Bird Residency, and eco-hut spots like Emerald Gecko and Break Water (bamboo cottages, ₹1,500–3,000). The cheapest huts are basic by design: fan, mosquito net, the occasional gecko. If that is charm, great; if you want sealed AC rooms, go mid-range.

Mid-range: the sweet spot (₹2,500–5,000)

Where Neil makes most sense. Tango Beach Resort, Pearl Park, Deep Sea Resort and Hotel Amulya give you a proper room, reliable AC, hot water, an on-site restaurant and staff who sort scooters and ferry pickups. TSG Aura and the Aquays properties edge into upper-mid at ₹4,000–8,000 with a poolside feel. For a one-to-two-night stop, this tier is comfort without overpaying for a resort you will barely use.

Luxury: SeaShell, Silver Sand, Summer Sand (₹6,000–15,000+)

SeaShell Neil is the closest thing to a polished five-star: landscaped grounds, pool, good restaurant, ₹8,000–15,000+. Silver Sand Beach Resort owns the best toes-in-the-sand location on Laxmanpur at ₹7,000–13,000. Summer Sand is the family-friendly garden-and-cottages pick at ₹6,000–12,000.

Our candid resort take

These resorts are lovely, but Neil is not Havelock, and the gap between a good mid-range hotel and a luxury resort here is smaller than the price gap suggests. If Neil is a one-or-two-night stop, save the splurge for a beachfront villa on Havelock, which has the bigger luxury scene. Book the Neil resort when the setting itself is the point of your stay.

The booking rule

Getting here: ferry only, from Port Blair (1.5–2 hrs) or Havelock (~1 hr): Makruzz, Nautika and Green Ocean run the route, plus a cheaper government boat. Lock the hotel before you sail over in high season rather than hunting on arrival.

02 · Getting there

Message the property directly

Call or message, confirm the rate, pay them, not a reseller. It is often cheaper, it keeps the money with the island families running these places, and it gives you a human to call when a ferry cancellation shifts your dates.

Laxmanpur side

Sunsets and the coral bridge

The prettiest setting and most of the nicer resorts. Golden-hour beach walks from your door, and the natural bridge a short ride away.

Neil Kendra

Shops, ATMs, scooters and the cheapest clean rooms. Not on a beach, but nothing on Neil is more than fifteen minutes from one.

Bharatpur & Sitapur

Water sports and solitude

Bharatpur for snorkelling and glass-bottom boats beside the jetty; Sitapur for the far, quiet sunrise end with fewer stays and more silence.

Couples

Silver Sand for waking up on Laxmanpur itself, SeaShell for the polished pool-and-dinner evening, or a ₹2,500 garden room and the money saved for Dugong’s chilli crab. All three are correct answers.

Families

Summer Sand’s garden layout, or the mid-range trio (Tango, Pearl Park, Amulya) with connecting-room flexibility and restaurants on site. Shallow Bharatpur is the kids’ beach.

Honeymooners

One Laxmanpur-side resort night with a sunset walk, then dinner at Dugong. Neil does quiet romance better than anywhere in the territory.

Backpackers

No hostels: think ₹1,000–2,000 family guesthouses near the Kendra, or Emerald Gecko’s bamboo huts if nature-first sleeping is the point.

Slow travellers

Two nights, a scooter, no plan. Sitapur sunrise one day, Laxmanpur sunset the next, and the darkest skies of the trip in between.

03 · The stays

Is a Neil resort worth it over Havelock’s?

Havelock has the bigger, more developed luxury scene and better beachfront villas, if a five-star stay is the goal, spend it there and keep Neil as the laid-back stop. Neil’s resorts win when the island’s own quiet is what you are buying: fewer people, darker skies, and a coral bridge at the end of the beach.

October to April: book a few days to a few weeks ahead: stays are limited and the good-value rooms fill first. Off-season you can often walk in and negotiate. Either way, lock the room before you board the ferry over.

Getting here

Ferry only: Port Blair (1.5–2 hrs) or Havelock (~1 hr), on Makruzz, Nautika, Green Ocean or the government boat. The 5-day itinerary slots Neil in as the Day 4 exhale, which is exactly what it is.

₹400–500 a day from the Kendra, and every hotel arranges one. The three-beach loop plus the bridge is a single unhurried tank of petrol.

Know Before You Go: Neil Stay Essentials

Get the crossing right

Neil is ferry-only: fares, classes and the booking flow are in the Makruzz guide.

04 · The food

What rooms are actually like

Power cuts happen, wifi is a rumour, and mobile data is patchier than Havelock. Resorts run generators; guesthouses mostly do not. Download first, disconnect happily.

Monsoon stays

Cheap but chancy

Check-in reality

Island time applies

Deposits

Small and normal

Long stays

Weekly rates exist

The Kendra has ATMs of unreliable mood. Guesthouses and small kitchens are cash-first: carry what you need from Port Blair or Havelock.

The Neil stay checklist

The natural coral bridge only shows at low tide, and Bharatpur’s snorkelling is best then too. Check the day’s tide table when you land and shuffle the loop around it.

Ten calls that make the stop perfect

One night catches a Laxmanpur sunset and a Bharatpur snorkel. Two lets you fully slow down. More than two and you may run out of things to do: Neil is deliberately sleepy, and that is the product.

02 · Picking your stay

Mid-range means clean tile floors, reliable AC and hot water, not design hotels. Resorts add lawns, pools and better linen. Eco-huts add geckos. Every tier is honest about what it is; book accordingly.

05 · Things to do

Beach first, tier second, book direct always

Officially renamed Shaheed Dweep; ferries, locals and signs still say Neil. Both work everywhere, including on tickets.

01

Pick the beach before the hotel

Laxmanpur for sunsets and resorts, the Kendra for budget and ferries, Bharatpur for water time, Sitapur for silence.

The one real decision

02

Message the property direct

Often cheaper than the OTAs, and you get a human when ferry dates wobble. Island families answer fast.

WhatsApp works

03

Book before you sail

Stays are limited and the good-value rooms go first in season. Lock the room, then board.

Oct–Apr especially

04

Time the coral bridge

Low tide only, at high tide it is underwater. Check the tide table on arrival and plan the loop around it.

Free · unmissable

05

Snorkel Bharatpur early

Calm, shallow, glass-bottom boats at ₹500–700: best before the day boats and the wind arrive.

Beside the jetty

06

Laxmanpur at golden hour

Wide, shell-strewn, and the trip’s gentlest sunset. The Laxmanpur-side resorts put it at your door.

Daily, free

07

Rent the scooter

₹400–500 turns the whole island into one lazy loop: three beaches, the bridge, and every dhaba between.

Hotels arrange it

08

Dinner at Dugong

Neil’s standout table: chilli crab, Dugong iced tea, live music. Book on peak evenings.

₹1,800–2,500 for two

09

Look up after dinner

The darkest skies of the circuit. Guesthouse rooftops and Sitapur’s beach are natural planetariums.

Free · unforgettable

10

Save the splurge for Havelock

If a five-star villa is the goal, spend it across the water, and keep Neil as the quiet, perfect stopover it wants to be.

Honest advice

If you book only one thing early

The ferry. Rooms can be negotiated on the island; a sold-out crossing cannot.

Neil booked: plan the rest

The route that brings you here

Neil is Day 4 of the classic circuit: the 5-day itinerary lines up the ferries, beaches and budgets around it.

03 · A Neil overnight, done right

Ferry to ferry

June–September rates drop hard, but ferries wobble and some kitchens close. Fine for flexible wanderers; wrong for fixed itineraries.

04 · Stays, side by side

Every tier, honestly

11am land at the jetty, drop bags → 12pm Bharatpur swim and glass-bottom boat → 2pm lunch at Avisa → 4pm scooter to the coral bridge (low tide) → 5.30pm Laxmanpur sunset → 7.30pm Dugong or the Four Wise Men → 9.30pm stars from the rooftop → 10am next-day ferry, already missing it.

Rooms fill from the bottom up

The ₹1,500 rooms sell out long before the ₹8,000 ones. Budget travellers book earliest.

Negotiate off-season

May to September occupancy craters: walk-ins can halve the rack rate. In season, do not try.

07 · The longer circuit

Who each suits

Early ferry arrivals may wait for rooms; hotels stow bags happily and point you to breakfast. Build the first Bharatpur swim into the wait.

11 · The questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best hotel on Neil Island?

For polished comfort, SeaShell Neil is generally rated the best all-round resort, while Silver Sand Beach Resort has the best beachfront location on Laxmanpur. For value, a good mid-range hotel like Tango Beach Resort or Pearl Park does the job for far less.

Is it worth staying overnight on Neil Island?

Yes, one night catches both a Laxmanpur sunset and an early Bharatpur snorkel without rushing the ferry. Two nights suits anyone who wants to fully slow down; more than two and you may run out of things to do.

How many days are enough for Neil Island?

One to two nights is enough for almost everyone. The three main beaches, the coral bridge and a snorkel trip fit comfortably into a day and a half at an unhurried pace.

Are there budget hotels near Bharatpur Beach?

Yes. Bharatpur sits beside the jetty and Neil Kendra market, so the cheapest guesthouses and homestays (roughly ₹1,000–2,500) are only a short ride away: stay cheap and still snorkel first thing.

Should I book Neil hotels in advance?

In peak season (October to April), yes, stays are limited and the good-value rooms fill first, so book a few days to a few weeks ahead. Off-season you can often walk in and negotiate.

Is Neil Island or Havelock better for a luxury stay?

Havelock has the bigger, more developed luxury scene and better beachfront villas. Neil’s resorts are pleasant but fewer and simpler, if a five-star stay is the goal, spend it on Havelock and keep Neil as a laid-back stop.

How do I reach Neil Island?

Ferry only: from Port Blair (1.5–2 hours) or Havelock (about 1 hour), on private catamarans like Makruzz, Nautika and Green Ocean, or the cheaper government boat.

Which side of Neil should I stay on?

Laxmanpur for the prettiest setting and the resorts, Neil Kendra for budget and ferry convenience, Bharatpur-side for water activities, Sitapur for solitude. Nothing is more than fifteen minutes from anything.

Are there hostels on Neil Island?

No real hostel scene: the budget tier is family-run guesthouses (₹1,000–2,500) and eco-hut properties like Emerald Gecko. They are often warmer and better value than a dorm anyway.

Do Neil hotels have AC and hot water?

Mid-range and up, yes, reliably. The cheapest huts are fan-and-net by design, and power cuts hit budget rooms harder since resorts run generators.

Can I book direct with the hotels?

Yes, and you should: call or WhatsApp the property, confirm the rate, pay them directly. It is often cheaper than the OTAs and keeps the money with the island families.

What do luxury resorts on Neil cost?

SeaShell Neil runs roughly ₹8,000–15,000+ a night in season, Silver Sand ₹7,000–13,000 and Summer Sand ₹6,000–12,000. Off-season these soften considerably.

Is Neil Island good for a honeymoon?

Quietly, yes: a Laxmanpur-side resort, a sunset walk, dinner at Dugong and the darkest skies of the trip. Pair it with a Havelock beachfront villa for the fuller version.

What is there to do near the hotels?

The three-beach scooter loop, the natural coral bridge at low tide, Bharatpur’s glass-bottom boats and snorkelling, Laxmanpur’s sunset, and star-gazing after dinner.

Do the hotels arrange scooters and ferries?

Almost all of them: scooters at ₹400–500 a day from the desk, ferry pickups on request, and honest advice about tide timings thrown in free.

Is Shaheed Dweep the same as Neil Island?

Yes, officially renamed Shaheed Dweep, but ferries, locals and signage still say Neil. Both names work everywhere.

When are Neil hotel rates cheapest?

May to September, when the monsoon empties the island: walk-ins can negotiate hard. The trade-off is chancier ferries and some closed kitchens.

Are there ATMs on Neil Island?

A couple at Neil Kendra, with unreliable moods. Carry the cash you need from Port Blair or Havelock: guesthouses and small kitchens are cash-first.

What should I book first: hotel or ferry?

The ferry, always. Rooms can be negotiated on the island; a sold-out crossing cannot. Lock the boat, then the bed.
